Our blog explores what it is like to be a bungalow owner, and how to do-it-yourself if you're not really a do-it-yourself-er. We explore old bungalow living, report on bungalow events, and discuss craftsman-style bungalows -- without an *arts-and-crafts-style or die* attitude.

Merritt Restaurant and Bakery, an Oakland, CA landmark near Lake Merritt, closed due to fire
I need a sheet cake tomorrow and so I called Merritt Bakery in Oakland near Lake Merritt and when I didn't get an answer, I looked it up on the internet and discovered they were closed due to a fire that occurred in May. The old style diner was 63 years old, it opened in 1952, and has become an Oakland landmark, popular with elders as well as hipsters, too! My son loved to go to the bakery and get a treat when we were visiting Lake Merritt. In fact, we got his circus birthday cake there last year, he loved it! We will miss this special bakery and diner! Hopefully, they will open again.
