Foodie shopping: Oaktown Spice Shop, Grand Lake Neighborhood, Oakland,CA

When I was in Chicago, Illinois this summer I visited an amazing spice shop in old town.  I'll never forget the smell of the freshly ground cinnamon and other spices!  I am so happy we have our own spice shop in Oakland right in the Grand Lake neighborhood.  John Beaver and Erica Perez opened Oaktown Spice Shop last December.

John Beaver worked in the spice industry for many years at a family-owned spice shop outside of Milwaukee where he is from.  Within the shop, it is a feast for the senses!  There are vintage scales and spice jars, as well as antique maps that point out the region where the spices come from.  This is a great place to visit if you have a little time to spare and want to learn and try something new.  The shop caters to the everyday cook as well as to the gourmet.

Beaver sources the very best spices from all over the world.  He has handcrafted blends that you won't find anywhere else.  They are right down the street from the Saturday Grand Lake farmers market, which has so many food loving people.
