Heart of the Home Tour

Today (April 30, 2016) is the Heart of the Home Tour. It is a tour of very nice homes (with "distinctive architectural and decorative styles") in Piedmont and Oakland benefitting the Children's Support League of the East Bay. Tickets are $50 and go to a good cause.

About Our Blog

In 2003, we abandoned apartment living. Rejecting the wild prices of plain looking ranch-style and Eichler houses on the San Francisco Peninsula, we instead searched for a house with character. We found it in the form of a bungalow in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland.

The big question: did we get more character than we bargained for?

We aren't contractors, designers, architects, or builders. We never thought of ourselves as do-it-yourself-ers. But, our old bungalow had other plans for us. And now we have an amazing 3-year-old, making things even more interesting.

Our blog explores what it is like to be a bungalow owner, and how to do-it-yourself if you're not really a do-it-yourself-er. We explore old bungalow living, report on bungalow events, and discuss craftsman-style bungalows -- without an *arts-and-crafts-style or die* attitude.
