A new favorite child friendly cafe is Hive, the place to bee. I got a breakfast sandwich with organic fried egg, swiss cheese, fresh tomato, and house-made lemon dill mayo- grilled to perfection for $5.50. They have a designated child friendly area with toys. Plus, there is free internet!

About Our Blog

In 2003, we abandoned apartment living. Rejecting the wild prices of plain looking ranch-style and Eichler houses on the San Francisco Peninsula, we instead searched for a house with character. We found it in the form of a bungalow in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland.

The big question: did we get more character than we bargained for?

We aren't contractors, designers, architects, or builders. We never thought of ourselves as do-it-yourself-ers. But, our old bungalow had other plans for us. And now we have an amazing 3-year-old, making things even more interesting.

Our blog explores what it is like to be a bungalow owner, and how to do-it-yourself if you're not really a do-it-yourself-er. We explore old bungalow living, report on bungalow events, and discuss craftsman-style bungalows -- without an *arts-and-crafts-style or die* attitude.
