Celebrating MLK Day - Visiting MOAD in San Francisco

We went to the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco to celebrate MLK Day today.

Here are some photos of the chalk drawings outside:

We followed the rules and didn't take pictures inside the galleries of the museum, which had free admission today.  But we did take a few pictures looking out onto Mission Street.

The Grove in San Francisco

We had lunch at The Grove in San Francisco on MLK Day, right before heading across the street to visit the Museum of the African Diaspora and Yerba Buena Gardens.  Great restaurant - comfort food.   And huge cookies!   Excellent atmosphere.  Dogs allowed on outside patio.

Samovar at Yerba Buena Garden, San Francisco

Samovar at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco is a modern, fun teahouse.  Great view of Yerba Buena Gardens.  Excellent tea selection.

The breakfast at the Brookshire at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, MI is a cozy and warm option on a winter morning.

They have regular and gluten free pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, and even steak and eggs.  There is a fireplace on during cold mornings which adds to the ambiance.

Best Bungalow Bilingual Bedtime Book for children - La Casa Adormecida, The Napping House

My favorite bedtime book for my son, for both home and travel is La Casa Adormecida, The Napping House.  Whether we are at a hotel, in our own bed, or at family's this book is so relaxing, that we can't help but fall asleep!  We particularly love the version that has both Spanish and English.

"It is raining outside.  Inside, a grandmother snoring in a cozy bed is joined by a dreaming child, a dozing dog, and a sleepy cat and mouse, but when a wakeful flea gets into bed, everyone gets a surprise!"

This book is translated by Alma Flor Ada and F. Isabel Campoy.

Elliot's Lounge at The Brookshire Restaurant at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, Michigan

My son and I enjoyed a casual dinner at Elliot's Lounge in The Royal Park Hotel a few nights ago.  A few televisions were showing sports, such as ice hockey or basketball.  Each table had a small oil lamp, there was beautiful wood paneling, and great service!  This place is really cozy!  We loved the freshly baked pretzels and cheese fondue, plus since I am mostly gluten free they gave me gluten free toast too!  My son loved the kid grilled cheese with french fries, and he said it was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches he'd ever had!  I had minestrone soup which was delicious, the soups change daily and are homemade!

Adults nearby that we talked to were enjoying local Motor City Brewing Works, Ghettoblasters beer and Michigan wine from Traverse City.
